Ginger provides a cooling finish and peppery flavour to a gin, as well as giving the impression of sweetness. The dried root amplifies the spicy aroma of the ginger and can lift the musty and earthy aroma of other botanicals in your blend. When dried, ginger loses a lot of the “heat” associated with fresh ginger root.
Every distillery has its secret mix of botanicals. Besides Juniper Berry, most Gins contain citrus botanicals such as lemon and bitter orange peel, anise, angelica root and seed, orris root, licorice root, cinnamon, cubeb, savoury, lime peel, grapefruit peel.
