Botanicals Series – Licorice Root

Licorice root carries a unique taste similar to nutmeg or anise without the menthol quality. A soft, hay-like wood taste comes through, along with loud, bright, crystalised sugar. Licorice root will alter the mouthfeel of your gin, making it more viscous. Don’t expect the flavour of licorice candy.
Every distillery has its secret mix of botanicals. Besides Juniper Berry, most Gins contain citrus botanicals such as lemon and bitter orange peel, anise, angelica root and seed, orris root, licorice root, cinnamon, cubeb, savoury, lime peel, grapefruit peel.
